£2.3 million upgrade for Tilbury fuel plant

Seras invests in industry leading fuel production to strengthen the UK’s renewable energy generation

Seras has successfully completed a £2.3 million upgrade to its biomass fuel production facility at Tilbury Green Power, one of the UK’s largest biomass power plants.

The comprehensive refurbishment of the waste wood processing plant incorporates cutting edge technology, supplied by HAAS Recycling-Systems. The upgrade has enhanced the facility’s operational performance across several key areas, including plant safety, efficiency and fuel quality. These improvements have helped to ensure an even more reliable and sustainable 24/7 fuel supply to Tilbury Green Power.

The month-long upgrade involved installing key technological equipment including a new dust suppression misting system which helps create a safe and sustainable environment, enhancing the health and safety performance of the plant.

Tilbury Green Power generates up to 335 GWh of sustainable energy every year. Seras has an exclusive fuel supply contract with the power station, owned by Greenvolt Group and Equitix, through to 2036. The Tilbury plant, which converts untreated waste wood into sustainable wood chip, produces 300k tonnes of fuel for Tilbury Green Power every year.
